We Need Your Help Building Our Equity Resource Directory!

As our country works to address the effects of long-standing inequity, arts organizations are starting to work to address inequity in their boards, staff and work. The first step, of course, is to educate your staff, board and volunteers about the history of racial inequity and many are working hard to do that now.

But once an organization recognizes the need to make systematic changes, how do they determine next steps? Where do they start? How do you learn about best practices? How do you find a consultant to help? How do you assess the impact of changes you are making? This is particularly difficult for volunteer organizations or organizations with small staffs and limited budgets.

To help arts organizations help each other, we are creating an Equity Resource Page on our website. And we will be loading it with local and national resources to make it easier for arts organizations to get started.

But we need your help. We know there are lots of great articles out there, but what we are looking for is information that arts organizations can apply directly to their organizations. Do you know of a resource, person, company, tool-kit, etc that helped your organization? Send us an email with the information and we will add it. These are examples of the information we are looking for:

  • Local or national websites for people or organizaitons that are thought leaders in the work of racial equity, as well as inclusion, diversity and accessibility generally - preferable specifically for the arts sector.

  • Any online assessment tool, toolkit, sample language, or helpful articles that provide direct and applicable tools for organizations to use to address:

    • Hiring practices

    • Anti-racism clauses in by-laws

    • Board diversity

    • Changes to programming to provide welcoming, accessible programs for all.

    • Budgetary changes

    • And more…..

  • Local or national consultants that you have worked with that have impacted your organization.

We know this work will build and change over time. And that every organization is different. This Resource Page will be a place to start and, hopefully, will save organizations time in getting started on the work to move towards diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in arts organizations.
