Exploring What Teaching Artists Need

Teaching Artists, whether they are working in public schools, hospitals or private educational settings, have different concerns than other artists. Their work exists at the intersection of performance or craft and education and impacts our next generation of painters, dancers, drummers and all artists. Because of the unique needs of these artists, Triangle ArtWorks is partnering with United Arts to conduct investigations into their specific needs.

We began this work with our May panel discussion, Teaching Artist Programs in the Triangle (see video here) filled with basic information for anyone engaged in work as a teaching artist - or who wanted to know more about this field.

Over this summer we will be engaging in dialog with both early career and very experienced Teaching Artists from around our state to assess their needs as art businesses. This will allow us to create programming that meets the needs of Teaching Artists, and that’s a good thing for all of us!

Watch this space for the results of our current efforts.

Other resources for Teaching Artists in our area include:

United Arts Artists In Schools program

Durham Arts Creative Arts In Public Schools CAPS program

NC Central University Teaching Artist Certificate Program
