Cary
Cary Community Choir – The Choir was founded as a cooperative effort among Ministers of Music from the four main churches in Cary. The Choir gathers each year to provide an opportunity for singers in church choirs from across the region to prepare a portion of Messiah by G.F. Cary Town Band – The Cary Town Band is reminiscent of the turn of the 20th century bands led by Sousa, Goldman, and others who popularized band concerts all over America. Presenting concerts recreating that bygone era, the band plays marches from many nations, circus music, waltzes, rags, polkas, famous overtures, and other “pops” classical music of the 1860’s to 1920’s with an occasional nod to more modern fare. Chapel Hill Philharmonia – The Chapel Hill Philharmonia is an all-volunteer community symphony orchestra that has performed a wide variety of classical music, from old favorites to new works. The orchestra gives several free concerts each year.Philharmonia musicians span a wide range of ages and occupations including scientists, teachers, physicians, homemakers, college and post-graduate students, UNC and Duke faculty, and retired members of the community. Musical Empowerment – Through free, one-on-one music lessons, Musical Empowerment nurtures meaningful relationships between collegiate mentors and children in under-served communities based on a shared love of music and learning that build a foundation of confidence, creativity and self-discipline to create successful individuals. North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra – The North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra is the state’s premier jazz orchestra. Founded in 1993, the 18-member ensemble has championed the great American jazz art form by presenting concerts and educational programming across the state. The orchestra has recorded three CDs and appeared on public television broadcasts by UNC-TV. The orchestra has performed with many jazz luminaries including Branford Marsalis, John Pizzarelli, Rene Marie, the Marcus Roberts Trio, Slide Hampton, and Claudio Roditi. Triangle Jewish Chorale – The Triangle Jewish Chorale learns and performs songs of our Jewish heritage in English, Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino, German and whatever language Jews have from all over the world. The Chorale meets weekly and has at least two performances a year and more if arranged. Voices – Voices, formerly the Chapel Hill Community Chorus, is one of the Triangle’s oldest and most distinguished choral groups with a rich history spanning over three decades. In addition to the 130-member chorus, Voices also has a smaller, select ensemble, Cantari. Both choruses perform fall and spring concerts often featuring an orchestra and soloists. Durham Medical Orchestra -Artistry. Wellness. Passion. Community. These values unite the members of the Durham Medical Orchestra, which draws together health-related professionals, medical and graduate students of the life sciences, and community members in Durham. The Heart of Carolina Chorus – The Central Carolina Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society is home to the “Heart of Carolina Chorus”. HOCC – chartered in 2006 – is an auditioned chorus. Our now 25-man chorus sings four-part a cappella harmony in a number of styles, focusing on performance excellence. Members (currently ages 15 to 77 years old) come to sing with us from throughout the Triangle area. Our group is open to men and boys of good character, with good singing skills, and a desire to perform in public and compete regularly with other chapters in NC & SC. Capital City Girls Choir (CCGC) – The Capital City Girls Choir is an achievement-based vocal and music training program for girls from Raleigh, North Carolina, and the surrounding communities. CCGC is associated with the community outreach program of the School of Music at Meredith College. The three choirs of the organization are open to singers from ages nine through eighteen. They have performed at the North Carolina Governor’s Mansion, the NC Museum of Art, the White House, Washington National Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral and St. Paul’s in London and at various venues in British Columbia and France. Carolina Harmony Chorus – Carolina Harmony Chorus is a division of Sweet Adelines International. North Carolina Symphony Orchestra – The Symphony is a North Carolina state-supported symphony orchestra and a division of the NC Department of Cultural Resources. The Symphony carries out an extensive education program; approximately 40 concerts per year are performed free for school children throughout the state and are part of the schools’ music education curriculum. In addition, among many education initiatives, the North Carolina Symphony stages the annual Youth Concerto Competition, honors an outstanding music educator, and offers master classes for both adults and young people. Oak City Sound – We have been Triangle area’s premier barbershop chorus since 1975, featuring men of all ages who love to sing four-part a cappella harmony, meet new friends and develop great relationships.. PineCone: The Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, is a private, non-profit membership organization dedicated to preserving, presenting, and promoting traditional music, dance, and other folk performing arts. PineCone is considered the largest and most active traditional music organization in the state. Each year PineCone presents more than 150 events, with approximately 100 of those offered to the public for free. We feature different age and level divisions: Training choir (boys and girls 7-12 years old), Prima girls (girls only, 8-18 years old), Concert choir (boys only, 8-14 years old (treble/unchanged voices), Chamber ensemble (young men and men; must be high school aged or older (changing or changed voices – tenors, baritones, basses). NC Shape Note Singers: Traditional shape note singings using The Sacred Harp take place twice a month in the Triangle area: on the 2nd Sunday of the month from 2-4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 305 East Main Street, Durham and on the 4th Sunday of the month from 2-4 p.m. at Friends Meeting House, 625 Tower Street, Raleigh. Oak City Voices – Oak City Voices is a new, auditioned women’s chorus in the Triangle area, welcoming women from all cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life who wish to raise their voices in a community of song. Our mission is to share our love and passion for music through song. We will be performing a richly varied repertoire from swing to folk, and from classical to contemporary. Each concert series includes 1-2 performances at assisted living facilities free of charge, and a performance for the public, for which we charge admission. Triangle Wind Ensemble : Triangle Wind Ensemble is a 50-member group of semi-professional and professional wind and percussion players who perform a six-concert series in the Triangle each season, with additional invited performances for residential communities, festivals, and gatherings of music educators. The group enjoys playing the rich and varied literature for wind band, including original compositions, outstanding arrangements of orchestral works, and special holiday and pops programming.
