Copyright 101 for Artists

Are you confused about how copyright law applies to your art or craftwork?

This workshop will answer your legal questions about copyright, trademark, the public domain, and how to protect your work. You’ll hear the answers to questions like:

  • Do I have to do anything to copyright my work?

  • What’s the difference between copyright and trademark?

  • Can I use an image/song/article in my work, or do I have to ask permission?

  • What is in the public domain?

  • What can I do to protect my work from others using it?

  • What goes into creating a great trademark?

  • How can choosing the right trademark help me?

Join lawyers Pamela Chestek of Chestek Legal and Brandon Huffman of Odin Law for a discussion of the legal issues affecting creative work. The lawyers will lead an open discussion on the most recent state of the law, so bring your questions and experiences and gain some insight into how the law might apply in your field.

Who is this workshop for: This workshop is good for visual artists, musicians, digital artists, writers, and anyone who produces creative work.

Anyone who does creative work or who works with the creative works of others will, at some point, run into a situation that will require some knowledge of what intellectual property is and isn’t. This will be a great opportunity to become familiar with the general principles and learn from others’ experiences.

Please note our speakers will not be able to provide direct legal advice on specific situations. All questions answered and information provided will be of a general nature and does not create an attorney-client relationship with attendees. This session will not be recorded.
