Rethinking Nonprofit Funding for More Impact - “Uncharitable” Movie Builds Momentum for Discussion

Recently, TAW staff and Board members attended a screening of UnCharitable. This documentary shows how the “overhead myth” is holding the work of nonprofits back and how changes in nonprofit funding could dramatically increase their impact on global and local issues. Anyone who has worked in a nonprofit is aware of this issue.

UnCharitable follows the work of Dan Pallotta, who’s original Ted Talk on this topic broke records. In the movie, we heard the stories of nonprofit organizations that were taking innovative approaches to fundraising and dramatically increasing their impact and work, but were brought down by attacks on the percentage of overhead it took to achieve this impact. We also heard from funders that support “trust-based philanthropy” and other new ways of supporting nonprofits and this AP article.

This movie is intended to be increase awareness of this issue to the broader community and a call to action to create change.
