Creative Placemaking Conference

Triangle ArtWorks will be participating in the Creative Placemaking Leadership Summit this month in Chapel Hill, NC.

Our Education Director, Cynthia Deis, will co-present a session titled Career Development For Your Artist Community: Equipping Local Artists to Succeed at a Public Scale, on Thursday from 3:30-5:00. Working with public artist and consultant David Wilson, she will present on the experience and results of our 6-week Public Art, Making Your Own Career course that occurred earlier this year as part of the Durham Momentum 360 entrepreneurship programming. They will be joined at the session by several artists who participated in the program to discuss their experiences. This presentation is part of Triangle ArtWorks larger mission to cultivate our arts community by supporting local artists. Deis states that “I believe public and installation art should represent the community in which it is sited. Assisting local artists to actually get these commissions and jobs is an important way to make sure that the money for these projects is going back into our local economy. ”

In addition to presenting at the conference, members of our Board will bring a version of our Have/Needs Wall to the summit Happy Hour. Our Have/Need Wall is one of the most popular features at SMASH!, our yearly art party, and we are excited to share it with the Creative Placemaking attendees. Watch our social media this week to see pics from the summit, or stop by and say hi during the Happy Hour!
